New UBC Microcertificate: Data Science for Healthcare Using the R Language

University of British Columbia Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine will be launching a Data Science for Healthcare Using the R Language Microcertificate, created by Dr. Dan Holmes, in October 2026.

Course Description

The UBC Data Science for Healthcare Using the R Language Microcertificate is a new 10-week program that provides healthcare professionals with in-demand analytics skills to analyze medical datasets using the R programming language and produce actionable insights, conduct quality improvement initiatives, and support data-informed delivery. Students will learn how to integrate AI tools in R to support agentic analytics, enabling more efficient, automated, and insight-driven data workflows.

Student Subsidy

UBC is offering four $1,000 CAD tuition subsidies for students enrolling in the October 2026 intake. Eligible applicants, including medical, graduate, and undergraduate students, must submit their application by July 31, 2026. Selected recipients will be contacted directly by the end of August.
