Transatlantic Summer School: Personalized Medicine × Innovations in AI

Behind every algorithm, there is a patient.
The Université de Montréal and Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München are joining forces for the first time in an unprecedented transatlantic summer school. From June 8 to 12, 2026, in Montréal, researchers, clinicians, students, entrepreneurs and innovation leaders will converge around a foundational question: how do we deploy artificial intelligence in personalized medicine in ways that are rigorous, equitable and deeply human?
Five intensive days. Two continents. One community in the making.
What you will experience and co-create
- Deepen — cutting-edge expertise in AI in health, generative AI, data governance and algorithmic ethics, through internationally renowned lectures and panels.
- Cross boundaries — disciplinary, cultural and institutional—within a structured space for co-creation between Québec and Bavaria, where knowledge meets and transforms.
- Co-create — concrete solutions during an interdisciplinary ideathon-projectathon focused on algorithmic equity, data governance and tomorrow’s clinical tools.
- Join — a lasting transatlantic network: the UdeM-LMU community of practice in digital health takes root here, and you are its founders.
Who is this program for?
This summer school is designed for all those who believe the future of health is built with many voices, at the crossroads of disciplines and experiences.
- Emerging scholars and researchers — Students at all levels, researchers and postdoctoral fellows in health, computer science, social sciences, law, ethics and beyond: this is a space to deepen, question and advance knowledge.
- Innovation and entrepreneurship — Startup founders, entrepreneurs and industry representatives developing tomorrow’s solutions and seeking to ground them in real clinical and social contexts.
- Clinical and organizational settings — Clinicians, health professionals and managers who experience the system’s transformations daily and want to understand and shape its levers.
- Citizen and community expertise — Citizens, community partners and knowledge holders whose voice is essential to ensure AI in health is developed inclusively, ethically and truly in the service of all.
Objectives
By the end of the summer school, participants will leave with concrete skills, actionable tools and an expanded vision of their own practice.
- Understand to act— Grasp the deep transformations AI is driving in contemporary health systems, and anticipate their implications for your field.
- Assess with rigor — Analyze the ethical, governance and equity issues at the heart of personalized medicine, with the conceptual tools to approach them critically and responsibly.
- Design together — Co-create concrete interdisciplinary solutions during the ideathon-projectathon, whether in algorithmic equity, data governance or clinical decision-support tools.
- Write differently — Master AI-assisted scientific writing methods, integrating the challenges of academic integrity and transparency.
- Collaborate beyond borders — Develop collaborative research projects within a Québec–Bavaria transatlantic framework, building on a peer network designed to last.
