International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA) Representative
Digital Heath Canada is currently seeking nominations to fill the International Medical Informatics Association Representative position.
The International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA) is an international association constituted of member countries. IMIA’s interest is focused on the dissemination and promotion of health informatics as it relates to scholarly endeavors, science, research and practical application. IMIA supports a working group structure relating to special or focused interests, and holds tri-annual international conferences, (MedInfo). Member country representatives attend the annual IMIA General Assembly. Digital Heath Canada has been the Canadian Representative since IMIA’s inception in 1980 and is a Charter member. The Digital Heath Canada IMIA representative acts as a liaison between Digital Heath Canada and IMIA.

Roles and responsibilities
- Providing a written report on IMIA activities for each Digital Heath Canada Board meeting, on a quarterly basis for the Digital Heath Canada members at large and for the Digital Heath Canada Annual General Meeting;
- Recruiting Digital Heath Canada members for participation in IMIA Working Groups and Committees;
- Requesting input from Digital Heath Canada Board on positions related to issues being brought to IMIA General Assembly;
- Voting at the IMIA General Assembly on behalf of Digital Heath Canada, and as applicable, as directed by Digital Heath Canada;
- Reporting to IMIA on national health informatics initiatives in Canada generally and Digital Heath Canada initiatives of relevance specifically.
- Attending and serving as an official IMIA Board Member with Digital Heath Canada supporting one additional board meeting per year, in addition to the General Assembly Meeting. (See below.)
Qualifications
In order to qualify for consideration as the Digital Heath Canada IMIA Representative, potential candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Hold current membership in Digital Heath Canada,
- Demonstrate active involvement in health informatics research in Canada,
- May not hold any position on the Board of Digital Heath Canada, except for the position of Past President.
Term of Office
The Digital Heath Canada IMIA representative will hold the position for a three-year term on the condition that the roles and responsibilities are being met, as reviewed by the Digital Heath Canada Board on an annual basis.
Expense Policy
Whenever possible, other sources of funding should be used to cover the Representative’s IMIA related travel expenses. When other funds are not available, Digital Heath Canada will reimburse the IMIA Representative’s travel, accommodations and meal expenses related to attending the IMIA General Assembly, in accordance with Digital Heath Canada travel expense policy. (pre-approval is required)
Apply
All interested candidates must submit a brief letter outlining why they are interested in representing Canada and Digital Heath Canada at IMIA and to provide their updated resume to the Digital Heath Canada Office. The selection committee will review the applications and make a recommendation to the Digital Heath Canada Board. The Digital Heath Canada Board shall consider the recommendation and appoint the IMIA Representative.
