Venue

Informatics Now: A Live Learning Series is open to individual learners who want to deepen their knowledge of health informatics, prepare for the CPHIMS-CA exam, or explore the Canadian digital health ecosystem—one module at a time. The learning series is perfect for independent professionals, new grads, or anyone ready to level up in digital health.

Spaces are limited to encourage participant engagement and networking, and to allow time for questions and answers.

Pre- and post-session resources are available at the link provided in the reminder email sent to all registrants one day before each session.

Session 2/8: Clinical + Health Services

The Clinical + Health Services module provides learners with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively manage and utilize health information within clinical settings. Learners will apply knowledge of basic clinical and biomedical concepts, clinical care processes, technologies, and workflow to the analysis, design, development, and implementation of health information systems and applications.

The module covers basic clinical terminology, commonly used abbreviations, and acronyms, and recognizes commonly used formats, structures, and methods for recording and communicating clinical data. Learners will foster the adoption and use of health information systems in clinical settings, facilitate appropriate consumer use of health information and communication technologies, and assess and mitigate clinical safety risks associated with health information and systems throughout the system life cycle.

The module also emphasizes the facilitation of clinicians’ use of electronic decision support tools in accessing evidence to support practice, ensuring that learners are well-prepared to integrate health information systems effectively within clinical environments.

Session 2/8 Facilitator: Lorraine Toderash

Lorraine Toderash is health professional working in the information technology field as a Clinical Product Manager. One of her key roles is to develop, document and communicate product requirements and work with the other members of the software engineering team to deliver the features and functions of a clinical software package. Lorraine’s detailed understanding of clinical workflows and her lived experience as Registered Nurse, contributes to successful products.

Lorraine has worked in health and health technology across multiple countries; in various parts of the health care sectors, including community, chronic, acute, and critical care environments; and in both rural and urban settings. Her experience across a variety of software project roles, including business analysis, quality assurance, change management, implementation (training) and post-implementation support has supplied her a unique viewpoint on technology projects.

When Lorraine is not working as a Clinical Product Manager for AlayaCare, she can be found volunteering at local community events such as Winnipeg Folk Festival or Folklorama.
