Government of Canada’s Digital Health Care Market Study – Part 1 (June 2022) stated that ‘More needs to be done to help unlock the power of personal health information’. It is with this in mind that Fanshawe College founded the School of Information Technology Health Systems Management post-graduate program.
Since its launch in 2015, Health Systems Management has been enhancing healthcare professionals with the ability to function within Canada’s health information and digital e-healthcare operations. Learners are taught concepts ranging from the health information lifecycle to legislation to regulation on PHI to clinical knowledge focused on coding to project management to analytics and decision support within the health information and digital health framework. With curriculum developed and taught by a core group of faculties as well as industry experts and leaders, students are given theory in collaboration with experiential learning to apply their existing clinical knowledge.
Health Systems Management is offered full-time on campus and part-time, asynchronously, online. Health Systems Management classes are offered in September, January and May. In addition to being a Continuing Education Provider with Digital Health Canada, Health Systems Management is accredited by Canadian College of Health Information Management (CCHIM). With accreditation by CCHIM, graduates of Health Systems Management are eligible to earn their Certified in Health Information Management (CHIM) credential once successful in writing CCHIM’s national certification examination. Graduates from Health Systems Management – both with CHIM and without – have been successful in securing employment in major campus hospitals, private practice, clinics, government organizations, and academia.
