Why is this role important?
The Senior Business Systems Analyst works with CIHI’s internal business stakeholders and Information Technology and Services (ITS) teams to perform a full range of business and system analysis activities. This includes preparing business and systems specifications, logical data mapping, participating in Quality Assurance (QA) planning and testing, and helping improve and streamline business and system processes. This role utilizes business analysis best practices and CIHI’s system development methodologies to identify and analyze business processes, data, and software requirements. This role provides leadership as required, liaising with business partners, technical teams, and external vendors to define requirements at the project and program levels.
What you’ll do
- Develop and maintain contact with key business counterparts within CIHI’s Business Areas as well as external customers, for assigned projects/programs to understand business requirements, processes and ensure awareness of corporate/business area direction.
- Lead the capture of detailed business, system and service level requirements, including current and future needs by interfacing between ITS resources and Business Areas(s) as well as external customers.
- Support the integration of technical solutions with the business environment, recognizing systems design and data interdependencies and reusability.
- Assist in the development of conversion and implementation strategies. Conducts pre and post implementation reviews.
- Facilitate discussions and interviews while working with Business Areas, external stakeholders, and ITS resources to ensure client needs are met through the delivery of annual product and system enhancements.
- Participate in the development of test strategy, test plans and test cases in collaboration with the Business Area.
- Prepare specifications for CIHI vendor clients including detailed logic and flow diagrams and supports the creation of test data for the implementation of vendor test systems as necessary.
- Provide leadership and guidance across multi-disciplinary team following project management guidelines including planning, project status and change request reporting, budgeting, risk and issue management, and resource management.
- Develop and demonstrates a thorough understanding and knowledge of CIHI’s policies, standards, methodologies, tools and processes.
What you’ll bring to the table
- Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Health Informatics, Business Administration, or related discipline or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in a Business Systems Analyst role in complex, multi-user information system implementations.
- Experience in the development of business and/or system requirements, business and process modelling as well as business process improvement initiatives associated with custom developed or packaged solutions. Business and process reengineering experience and understanding of the relationships between business processes and organization policies.
- Strong understanding of user and business requirements in factual and conceptual terms and the ability to translate these into information systems specifications.
- Solid understanding SQL and Python, Java, Oracle and development tools.
- Understanding of the QA methodologies, working knowledge of formal systems development life cycle methodologies and Unified Modeling Language (UML).
- Sound technical and business writing skills and experience with documentation deliverables pertaining detailed requirements (including but not limited to process flow, activity diagrams, use cases, data models, test documentation and training material).
- Experience with requirements management and flowcharting software.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of products.
- Solid understanding of current web-based technologies as well as modern Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence technologies. Experience with ETL processes, and source control systems such as GIT is an asset.
- Knowledge and experience on Cloud based implementations and application of Big Data tools and platforms is a definite asset.
- Effective interpersonal, presentation, verbal and writing communication skills including the ability to listen attentively and communicate complex ideas in simple terminology.
- Experienced in leading projects and being a team player with demonstrated leadership and decision-making skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines.
- Occasional travel may be required.
- Must comply with all CIHI workplace policies, including privacy and confidentiality.
- Fluency in English is required, bilingualism in both official languages is an asset.
