Why is this role important?

The IRD team is committed to advancing CIHI’s expertise in indicator development though strong collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. The senior analyst works as part of our analytic team to compile, verify and analyze data for indicators, and disseminate results to diverse audiences. The senior analyst also helps define what the indicators will measure, contributes to analytical plans and literature reviews, supports migration and streamlining of existing programming code, and helps with client inquiries and data requests.

What you’ll do

  1. Performs advanced qualitative and quantitative analyses on data from administrative databases and other sources (e.g., surveys).
  2. Supports the development of coding best practices, specifically in python.
  3. Writes analytical reports, briefing notes, fact sheets and presentations, including developing figures and tables to present key findings to a variety of audiences.
  4. Supports the development of comparable and actionable indicators to accelerate improvements in health care, health system performance and population health by identifying data sources for health system indicators, determining how indicators will be calculated and providing advice on data quality.
  5. Understands CIHI’s databases, related health data held by other organizations, and how to access these databases and related analyses.
  6. Prepares presentations, technical documents and reports that supports stakeholder use, access and understanding health system data, indicators, and information to improve the performance of Canada’s health systems. This includes seeking advice from subject matter experts and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
  7. Provides methodological advice and mentoring to other members of the analytical team.

What you’ll bring to the table

  • An undergraduate degree in epidemiology, statistics, health services research or similar fields. A graduate degree would be an asset.
  • 3 – 5 years of experience analyzing large and complex data sets (of both administrative and survey data) and writing reports on the results. Specific experience with data on mental health and substance use or aging would be an asset.
  • Extensive knowledge of programming languages required; experience with Python or R would be an asset.
  • Strong communication and writing skills. Specifically, the ability to write for a variety of audiences clearly and in an engaging way, as well as the ability to effectively communicate technical and analytical information.
  • Strong organizational skills. Able to manage projects, including multiple projects at once. Able to work on a team and alone, and with minimal supervision.
  • Strong critical-thinking skills with the ability to analyze and combine data and information to produce insights and knowledge that stakeholders can put into action.
  • Fluency in English required, bilingualism in both official languages is an asset
