Why is this role important?

Working as part of a team, the Analyst is responsible for carrying out a range of activities that contribute to the development and production of analytical products that inform health system improvement. Major responsibilities include researching data sources, participating in literature searching and evidence synthesis, conducting data analyses, conducting quality assurance checks, contributing to the writing of analytical reports and developing innovative means to visualize findings (e.g. infographics).

What you’ll do

  1.  Conducts basic quantitative and/or qualitative analyses to support the development of reports and studies. Provides support and assists with broader more complex analysis/replication under the direction of the program leads.
  2. Conducts literature reviews and synthesizes findings. Provides interpretation, context and identifies key findings from analysis.
  3. Responds to client requests for analysis and in compiling data for media requests and releases, including data validation and fact checking.
  4. Liaises with stakeholders to identify data and/or analytical requirements and assists with interpretation of results, related to specific analyses.
  5. Supports data quality and quality assurance process and fact checking activities as directed.
  6. Assists with knowledge translation and exchange activities. May participate in external meetings or prepare materials for external meetings and stakeholder engagements.
  7. Prepares and maintains technical notes/definitions. Drafts written text for CIHI reports or analytic projects within agreed outline under guidance from senior staff.
  8. Respects privacy and confidentiality of information by adhering to policies in Privacy and Confidentiality of Health Information at CIHI and related procedures and directives.
  9. Develops and maintains knowledge of CIHI’s data holdings, related data held by other organizations, and tools used by CIHI to access these data holdings.
  10. Maintains current knowledge about analytical techniques, health services and population health research, and stakeholder information needs.
  11. Collaborates with other CIHI departments and participates on CIHI project teams as required.
  12. Assumes responsibility for other related duties as assigned.

What you’ll bring to the table

  • Undergraduate degree in epidemiology, health sciences, social sciences, statistics or similar field. Graduate degree is an asset
  • One to three years’ experience working in a health care analysis or policy environment involved in the analysis, design and dissemination of research studies and related information products.
  • Knowledge of the Canadian health care system.
  • Experience in the use of software that supports literature review (Citavi), statistical analysis (SAS, R) and Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint. Experience with Python programming languages is an asset
  • Sound research and written communications skills, including the ability to prepare, interpret and effectively present evidence synthesis (e.g., literature review) and key analytical findings.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, activities and priorities.
  • Ability to work effectively both autonomously and as part of a team within a matrix environment.
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Fluency in English required, bilingualism in both official languages is an asset.
