Quinn oversees a diverse portfolio that includes the strategy and oversight of the Provincial eHealth ecosystem, as well as delivery and oversight of Alberta’s electronic health record, Netcare (Alberta’s electronic health record system), and MyHealth Records (the online tool that allows Albertans 14 years of age and older to view their own health records). Quinn’s responsibilities also include health information privacy and security, including the administration of the Health Information Act, and the delivery and operations of the department’s many information systems. During the pandemic, Quinn was involved in several pandemic related IT initiatives in his previous role as Executive Director of Information Management such as ABTraceTogether, the Alberta Covid Records QR code, and the Alberta Vaccine Booking System. Quinn has a BSc. Computing Science and a Master of Public Health both from the University of Alberta.

Simon was recently Board Chair at Four Villages CHC in Toronto, leading the organization through a merger with two other community health service providers. Simon holds a B.Sc from the University of Guelph and an MBA from McGill University.

As the Executive Director, Clinical Operations Informatics Office at Alberta Health Services, she is responsible for leading informatics teams and collaborates with clinical operations to utilize Connect Care clinical data and quality improvement tools to inform health outcomes, service delivery, and quality patient care. Joy is a member of AHS’ Patient Family Advisory Council and provides operational and informatics expertise and leads the strategic development and use of Connect Care’s patient portal (MyAHS Connect) to empower patients to be partners in their healthcare journey. Joy holds a Master of Arts in Leadership from Royal Roads University and a Bachelor of Nursing degree from the University of Calgary.

He is currently serving as the Senior Medical Advisor - Health Informatics, College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta, Strategic Advisor - Clinical and Informatics at the Canadian Institute for Health Information, and Chair of the Alberta Virtual Care Working Group. He is the past Chief Medical Information Officer of the Northwest Territories, was co-chair of the national Virtual Care Task Force, served on the Expert Working Group of the pan-Canadian Health Data Strategy, and is the Executive Producer and co-writer of The Unforgotten (2021), an award-winning film about inequities in health service for Indigenous people living in Canada. In 2013, he was appointed to the Order of Canada for his contribution to northern health care.

Also a professional engineer, Penny has held senior leadership roles in both the public and private sectors. She has extensive experience in strategic planning, operations, auditing, negotiations, consulting, and staff management. In 2018 she received national recognition from Digital Health Canada as one of the top Women Leaders in Digital Health. Currently, Penny is part of a triad team leading the implementation of Alberta’s Clinical Information System, Connect Care, which will be completed in the fall of 2024. Penny is a firm believer in living life to its fullest, upholding a balanced lifestyle, keeping active and maintaining a passion for working collaboratively and transparently on common goals. She is married with two children, has many personal interests, and loves to travel to warm destinations full of sand, sun and water.

From 2011-2016, she held the NSERC/AITF Industrial Research Chair on Service Systems Management, with IBM. Her research focuses on addressing industry-driven problems and interdisciplinary challenges, using AI and machine-learning methods. She has played leadership roles in the GRAND and AGE-WELL Networks of Centres of Excellence. In 2018 she received a McCalla professorship, and in 2019 she was recognized with a Killam Award for Excellence in Mentoring. She has supervised more than 60 graduate students and PDFs, who have gone forward to stellar academic and industrial careers. From 2020 to 2023, she was the Director of the University of Alberta's AI4Society Signature Area, and since 2021 she is serving as the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Science. She is currently leading a CFI-funded project that will transform the UCommons building into a smart living lab.

I have had the privilege of collaborating with diverse research teams in Singapore, Germany, and Canada. During my Ph.D. at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore, I developed machine learning techniques for image-guided non-invasive surgery. Subsequently, I worked with the ultrasound team at Panasonic R&D Center in Singapore, where I focused on developing techniques for improved ultrasound beamforming. I also served as a medical image segmentation specialist at Curefab in Germany before joining the University of Alberta. I worked as the R&D lead at MEDO.ai, an ultrasound AI start-up based in Edmonton. Throughout my career, I have developed AI techniques for various medical image analysis use cases, including hip ultrasound, wrist ultrasound, cardiac echo, and knee MRI.

Dr. James received his medical training at the University of British Columbia and completed nephrology training and a PhD in Epidemiology at the University of Calgary. He is a co-lead of the Alberta Kidney Disease Network (AKDN), Interdisciplinary Chronic Disease Collaboration (ICDC), and the Can-SOLVE CKD Strategy for Patient Oriented Research (SPOR) Network, and director of Research for the Alberta Provincial Project for Outcomes Assessment in Coronary Heart Disease (APPROACH). Dr. James' research is focused on risk prediction, computerized decision support tools, and pragmatic trials designed to improve the quality of care and health outcomes of people with kidney and cardiovascular diseases. He holds research funding from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and Alberta Innovates, and his work has been recognized with a Mid-Career Research Leader Award from the O’Brien Institute of Public Health at the University of Calgary, a Killam Emerging Research Leader Award, and the Monique Bégin Award in Knowledge Translation from CIHR.

Erin brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise in developing and executing innovative strategies that drive growth and enhance customer experience. Her passion for innovation has led her to work across a variety of industries including pharma, biotech, medical devices and healthcare technology. Erin completed her undergraduate degree at Wilfred Laurier and her MBA at Royal Roads University. She holds a number of professional certifications and is an avid volunteer. Her thought leadership has been widely recognized, and she has been invited to speak at several prestigious industry events.

David recently completed a PhD in medical science at the University of Calgary. His work focused on statistical and machine learning approaches to better understand the relationship between genotype and phenotype of facial shape. He is particularly interested in how genetic syndromes affect facial shape variation. David is an advocate for putting research into production by building tools for the public to interact with data and statistical models. A recent example of such tools is syndrome-atlas.ca—a simple web app for visualizing facial phenotypes of over 80 genetic syndromes with user adjustable age, sex, and severity effects all driven by a statistical model.

In this role, Sunil is responsible for supporting researchers and companies seeking to translate health research into sustainable human-centered care through commercialization. Sunil offers 20+ years of broad and diverse experience in interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral research, entrepreneurship, and building partnerships in industry, academia, and government. Sunil’s PhD research focused on developing a novel blood-based diagnostic for advanced prostate cancer patients to improve survival by guiding treatment selection. Previously, Sunil served as an industry scientist at InnoTech Alberta for 13 years. Sunil holds a BSc in Microbiology, an MSc in Pathology, and a PhD in Analytical Chemistry, all from the University of Alberta.

Born and raised in Forestburg, Alberta, Dr. Oberg completed his Doctorate of Medicine at the University of Alberta in 1983. He stayed in rural Alberta, beginning his medical practice in Cold Lake, and then moving to Brooks. During that time, he performed surgery, anesthesia, emergency medicine and obstetrics. In 1993, he ran for public office and was elected as the MLA for Bow Valley. Dr. Oberg served as an MLA for 15 years and held numerous posts, most notably as the Minister of Social Services, Minster of Learning, Minister of Infrastructure and Transportation, and Minister of Finance.
Dr. Oberg is also an Honorary Chief of Treaty 7, an honor that was given him for his work in Indigenous education. Dr. Oberg is a former Board Member of TSX listed Olympia Trust and CareRx, a present Board Member of Yorkville Asset Management, Toronto, Eyam Vaccines and Immunotherapeutics, Vancouver, Mynd Life Sciences, Vancouver and Promethean Biopharma, Sydney, Australia. He is also Vice Chairman of Vancouver Premier College. He and his wife Evelyn have four adult children and nine grand children. He enjoys hunting, boating and home renovation projects.

Over the span of her career which has been devoted to the cause of improving health outcomes for Albertans, she has held multiple roles such as client executive, executive consultant, strategy/change management consultant, project and program manager. She has a deep understanding of the health ecosystem and has been involved in several leading edge health initiatives and as such, has developed meaningful relationships within the ecosystem. At CGI, Brinda is Vice President, Consulting Services responsible for the health vertical.
