Why is this role important?
The Health System Analytics branch develops policy-relevant information that support health system decision-makers on a variety of topics pertaining to Canada’s health care system. The Senior Analyst will contribute to the full range of activities involved in the analysis and reporting of various health system issues such as completing literature reviews and interpreting results. In this role, the Senior Analyst will work on a variety of current topics related to the Canadian health system.
What you’ll do
- Performs advanced qualitative and quantitative analyses using R, Python and other analytical tools. This requires the use of analytical techniques to produce outputs from administrative databases and other sources.
- Conducts data management activities including writing and updating statistical code required for the development, computation, analysis, and/or verification of key deliverables. This may include support for the release of data and information through private and public reporting tools, including leading the execution of test strategies / test cases to ensure accuracy of the reported results in adherence with CIHI’s corporate information quality framework.
- Maintains detailed knowledge of data, tools, and analytical techniques used to produce standard and ad-hoc outputs.
- Conducts environmental scans and literature reviews to support the development of reports, statistics, and indicators.
- Leads and/or contributes to the development of materials (e.g., analytical reports, methodology or technical notes, presentations, educational, media, etc.) for dissemination of findings and knowledge translation, and reviews written products for analytic accuracy and quality.
- Assists in idea generation, drafting analytical plans, project tracking, and quality reviews.
- Ensures quality of products and activities are aligned with CIHI standards (e.g. accuracy, quality, privacy, etc.).
- Provides professional and timely client support to respond to internal and external client queries as required.
- Develops and maintains current knowledge of CIHI’s data holdings, trends in health services research and health policy, and stakeholder information needs to support current work and contribute to the development of new analytic proposals.
- Participates on project teams as required and assists in the development and maintenance of the project plans, conducting ad hoc analyses as necessary and providing content expertise.
- Represents the team, branch and the organization internally/externally, including participation on committees, presentations and/or attendance at conferences, preparation of articles for publication and other activities as required.
- Provides methodological and data quality advice in areas of expertise.
- Ensures adherence to, and ability to demonstrate compliance with, CIHI’s privacy and security policies and procedures when using CIHI data and information.
- Participates in other meetings and corporate project teams as required.
What you’ll bring to the table
- An undergraduate degree in epidemiology, health sciences, health policy, health economics, social sciences, statistics or similar field.
- Three to five years’ experience working in a health care research or policy environment involved in the analysis, design and dissemination of research studies and related information products.
- Proficiency with data manipulation and statistical software, such as R, Python or other statistical software. Experience with SAS is an asset.
- Strong verbal, presentation and written communication skills. The ability to write clearly, straightforward and in an engaging manner for a variety of audiences.
- Experience with the use of health data to support analysis of health system performance.
- Good conceptual knowledge of health and its broad determinants, of the measurement of health status and the Canadian health system.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team with minimal supervision.
- Proven organizational and time management skills, with an ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively to meet deadlines.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Existing knowledge of CIHI data holdings such as, Discharge Abstract Database (DAD) and the National Ambulatory Care Reporting System (NACRS), is an asset.
- Knowledge of international health care system indicators is an asset.
- Fluency in English is a requirement, bilingualism in both official languages is an asset.
