Why is this role important?

The Project Lead will lead collaboration cross-functionally to support CIHI’s Indigenous Health Strategy. Reporting to the Manager of Indigenous Health, the Project Lead will lead, coordinate and implement priority activities in CIHI’s Indigenous Health Strategy, with a focus on analytical and capacity building initiatives to support First Nations, Inuit, and Métis health data priorities.

*Please note that this exciting opportunity is open to candidates across Canada. Those residing in both Ottawa and Toronto surrounding areas report into the offices, and those that reside 75 km or more outside of either Ottawa or Toronto work remotely.*

What you’ll do

  1. Leads the co-development and refinements of new and existing indicators of cultural safety in health systems, including conceptualizing indicators, identifying data sources, supporting the development of appropriate methodologies, and conducting analysis on a broad range of data types (e.g., administrative and survey data).
  2. Leads activities related to the compilation and reporting of cultural safety indicators. Leads planning, project management and coordination for indicator development and evaluation activities.
  3. Leads the development of materials (e.g., analytical reports, methodology or technical notes, presentations, educational, media, etc.) for dissemination of findings and knowledge translation, and review written products for analytic accuracy and quality.
  4. Prepare relevant documentation, assess data quality, produce statistics, fulfill custom data requests, conduct analyses, and contribute to analytical reports.
  5. Leads or co-leads projects involving team members or multiple teams. Leads project management related activities, including project charter and timelines, taking responsibility for ensuring that activities are carried out in accordance with project plan.
  6. Maintain detailed knowledge of data, tools, and analytical techniques used to produce standard and ad-hoc outputs.
  7. Leads and supports strategic activities within CIHI’s Indigenous Health Strategy: Analysis and capacity building initiatives with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis partners (e.g., co-development of indicators of cultural safety in health systems; supporting Indigenous data requests and capacity building activities); Engagement with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis organizations (e.g., builds and maintains relationships through meetings with Indigenous organizations);Respectful governance of Indigenous-identifiable data (e.g., that strengthens CIHI’s approach to upholding principles of Indigenous Data Sovereignty)
  8. Advances cultural safety and humility within CIHI (e.g., developing training)
  9. Provides leadership and guidance to staff. Coaches, coordinates and monitors work, and workload of staff as appropriate. Provides input to annual performance management reviews as assigned.
  10. Ensure adherence to, and ability to demonstrate compliance with, CIHI’s privacy and security policies and procedures when using CIHI data and information.
  11. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of performance measurement/quality improvement and CIHI data sources, analyses, indicators, research techniques, emerging issues and policy initiatives related to health system performance.
  12. Participates in the departments operational planning and corporate reporting.
  13. Participates on external committees and/or represent the Indigenous Health team at conferences and events, as required.
  14. Prepare a range of written materials including presentations, reports, and briefing notes pertaining to First Nations, Inuit & Métis health data priorities.
  15. Maintains knowledge of current and emerging health and data priorities of First Nations, Inuit and Métis governments, communities and organizations.
