Why is this role important?

Under the direction of the Manager, Data Standards, the Program Specialist supports the planning, coordination and execution of cross-functional activities that help further the Data Standards portfolio and the Hospital Data Transformation strategic initiative. The Program Specialist will also play a key role in identifying and developing data standards to support cross-sector interoperability Key activities include research, environmental scanning, internal consultation, preparing and delivering presentations, drafting reports, background papers, and briefing notes.

What you’ll do

  1. Researches and synthesizes information on emerging standards topics. This includes coordinating with both internal and external stakeholders.
  2. Provides support to the Hospital Data Transformation strategic initiative by developing data standards to help support interoperability.
  3. Supports the development of background papers or briefing documents on key strategic initiatives.
  4. Prepares presentations for internal and external stakeholders on key standards initiatives. Drafts and participates in the development of briefing notes, reports, articles and other documentation as required.
  5. Provides support to internal and external strategic committees, including planning and organizing meetings, producing relevant supporting documentation, coordinating information dissemination, and undertaking follow-up activities, as required.
  6. Maintains on-going relationships with stakeholder groups within CIHI, to ensure coordination and synergy. Establishes and maintains external professional contacts.
  7. Gathers, tracks, reviews and assesses information for corporate priorities and other relevant projects.
  8. Supports and coordinates project deliverables including planning, monitoring and reporting of activities. Coordinates operational and logistical aspects related to the projects including scheduling meetings, preparing pertinent documentations, obtaining required approvals, financial reporting etc.
  9. Contributes to the promotion of CIHI products and services through participation on external committees, presentations and/or attendance at conferences, preparation of articles for publication and other activities as required.

What you’ll bring to the table

  • Undergraduate degree in Health or Public Administration or Business Administration, or a field related to the development of public policy.
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in health care information.
  • General understanding of clinical concepts and processes within healthcare systems.
  • Superior writing skills and ability to write for different audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
  • Outstanding organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities and competing deadlines.
  • Self-directed, innovative, and able to work with minimal supervision and under tight deadlines.
  • Experience in writing briefing notes, backgrounders and preparing presentations for senior executives.
  • Experience in establishing and managing relationships with stakeholders.
  • Experience in coordinating projects of strategic nature including some experience in project planning and execution.
  • Experience with data standards, including HL7 standards, SNOMED, ICD, LOINC is an asset.
  • Experience with hospital data, including DAD and NACRS, is an asset.
  • Familiarity with data standards development/maintenance organizations is an asset.
  • Experience in the healthcare field is an asset.
  • Fluency in English is required, bilingualism in both official languages is an asset..
