Why is this role important?

The analyst works as part of our analytic team to compile, verify, and analyze data for indicators, and disseminate results to diverse audiences. The analyst also helps define what the indicators will measure, contributes to analytical plans and literature reviews, supports migration of existing SAS programming code into the Python language, and helps with client requests.

What you’ll do

  1. Conducts environmental scans and literature reviews to support the development of reports, statistics, and indicators.
  2. Conducts analyses required for new indicator development, investigation, and/or verification of the indicator results.
  3. Participates in the methodological discussions related to indicator development.
  4. Assists with dissemination of health indicator data, including, but not limited to, preparation of the data for reporting.
  5. Maintains technical documentation. Prepares other relevant documentation and summaries as required.
  6. Assists with the identification of user requirements for statistical data and deals appropriately with internal and external stakeholders when responding to requests for information.
  7. Supports other projects, special studies, ad-hoc reports, or presentations, as required.
  8. Develops and maintains knowledge of CIHI’s data holdings, related data held by other organizations, and tools used by CIHI to access these data holdings.
  9. Maintains current knowledge about analytical techniques, health services and population health research, and stakeholder information needs.
  10. Ensures adherence to, and ability to demonstrate compliance with, CIHI’s privacy and security policies and procedures when using CIHI data and information.

What you’ll bring to the table

  • Undergraduate degree in health information, health science, statistics, or similar field.
  • 1 to 3 years of professionally related experience.
  • Experience in the manipulation and analysis of statistical data from administrative health databases.
  • Proficient knowledge of programming languages required; experience with Python or R would be an asset.
  • Experience in the preparation of statistical and descriptive reports for different audiences.
  • Knowledge of the Canadian health care system.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility and initiative in adapting quickly in a fast-paced environment.
  • Fluency in English required, bilingualism in both official languages is an asset.
