Take the final step toward achieving your Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems – Canada (CPHIMS-CA) credential

After taking the Digital Health Canada Core HI courses, writing the CPHIMS-CA exam is the next step toward achieving the CPHIMS-CA credential. Exam writers must successfully pass both the CPHIMS and CA (Canadian Supplemental) Exams to achieve certification.

To write the CPHIMS Exam

The CPHIMS portion of the exam is administered by HIMSS. To start, please complete the HIMSS online exam application form at the link below. Once your application has been reviewed, HIMSS will send you an email with further instructions on how and where to write the exam. Payment for the exam will be processed by HIMSS. Please note that many exam centres are currently closed due to COVID restrictions.

CPHIMS EXAM APPLICATION

To write the CA (Canadian Supplemental) Exam

The CA (Canadian Supplemental) portion of the exam is administered by Digital Health Canada.

While the opportunity to write the CA exam is not currently available due to physical distancing restrictions, you can use the extra time available to: take a Core HI Education course, write the CA Practice Exam, read the Resource Guide to Digital Health in Canada, or take the CPHIMS exam. We look forward to welcoming exam writers again in the spring of 2021.

To qualify for the exams

Make sure you meet the requirements from one of the categories below before registering for an exam sitting:

  1. Writers require a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university plus five years of information and management systems experience (work experience in systems analysis; design; selection, implementation, support, and maintenance; testing and evaluation; privacy and security; information systems; clinical informatics; management engineering), including three years in a healthcare setting (includes provider of health services or products to a healthcare facility (e.g. hospital; healthcare consulting firm; vendor; federal, provincial/ territorial or local government office; academic institution; payer; public health) – OR –
  2. Writers require a graduate degree or higher from an accredited college or university plus three years of information and management systems experience (work experience in systems analysis; design; selection, implementation, support, and maintenance; testing and evaluation; privacy and security; information systems; clinical informatics; management engineering), including two years in a healthcare setting (e.g. hospital; healthcare consulting firm; vendor; federal, provincial/ territorial or local government office; academic institution; payer; public health). – OR –
  3. Writers require ten years of information and management systems experience (work experience in systems analysis; design; selection, implementation, support, and maintenance; testing and evaluation; privacy and security; information systems; clinical informatics; management engineering), including eight years in a healthcare setting (e.g. hospital; healthcare consulting firm; vendor; federal, provincial/ territorial or local government office; academic institution; payer; public health). Note: All candidates without a degree, or whose degree was not awarded in the past five years will need to document at least 45 hours of continuing education in healthcare information technology, digital health, or informatics, specifically covering content found on the CPHIMS Detailed Content OutlineCandidates will be required to submit a current CV or resume supporting their experience, along with official documentation of their current job description, as well as a listing of the 45 hours of continuing education, should their degree be over five years old.
