Why is this role important?

The Program Lead plays an important role in the planning and execution of activities related to the selection, development, reporting and evaluation of health indicators that support decision-making in priority health areas as identified in CIHI’s Strategic Plan. The Program Lead will work collaboratively with the Indicator Research and Development team as well as internal and external stakeholders to ensure the delivery of timely and rigorous indicators. This includes work on the Aging with Dignity project aimed at reporting a suite of 6 indicators for this priority area. Overall, the Program Lead will improve and accelerate the production of health information that is relevant to decision-makers at the facility, regional, provincial and pan-Canadian levels.

What you’ll do

  1. Working in a matrix environment, leads or co-leads team activities related to the selection, development, and reporting of Aging with Dignity performance indicators. Provides planning, project management and coordination for indicator development and evaluation activities.
  2. Supervises, coaches, coordinates and monitors work, workload, and performance of staff to ensure quality is maintained and that learning opportunities are provided. Conducts annual performance management reviews and contributes to recruitment and resource planning.
  3. Leads the development and refinements of new and existing health system indicators, including conceptualizing indicators, identifying data sources, supporting the development of appropriate methodologies, and conducting analysis on a broad range of data types (e.g., administrative and survey data).
  4. Develops and executes engagement strategies to establish and foster effective working relationships with diverse subject matter experts from across CIHI and external stakeholders.
  5. Leads the preparation of presentation materials, technical documentation and communication materials as required to support understanding and the use of health system data, measures, and information for health system performance management.
  6. Provides leadership and guidance to all internal staff involved on the project teams.
  7. Plans and participates in product communication and knowledge exchange activities that include, but not limited to the preparation of written materials and/or presentations to various internal and external stakeholder groups. Responds to technical/methodological inquiries from internal and external stakeholders, data requests and ad hoc analyses to support additional stakeholder needs.
  8. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of performance measurement/quality improvement and CIHI data sources, analyses, indicators, research techniques, emerging issues and policy initiatives related to health system performance.
  9. Contributes to the promotion of CIHI products and services through participation on committees, presentations and/or attendance at conferences, and other activities, as required.

What you’ll bring to the table

  • Graduate degree in health services research, epidemiology, health administration, health information, social sciences, business administration or other relevant field or equivalent education/experience.
  • Five years relevant experience and knowledge in health indicator development and reporting. Specific experience with the long-term care system, aging, survey development, analysis and/or reporting would be an asset.
  • 1 -3 years of supervisory experience with a strong record of successful team engagement and project management.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in French.
  • Conceptual understanding of the health care system, health care policy, and sound knowledge of health information and its uses for policy development, planning, management, and evaluation purpose.
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills. Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering presentations to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Strong critical thinking skills and interpretation of analytic results.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a strong team player.
  • Experience supervising and coaching staff.
  • Fluency in both official languages is required.
