What is motivating you to join the CHIEF Executive Forum Advisory Committee?
As someone that has been affiliated with COACH and subsequently Digital Health Canada since the late 90’s, and who has worked across a variety of health system stakeholders (public sector, not for profit, private solution providers, insurance adjudicators, consultancies, and digital health innovators), I have a strong appreciation for the challenge of connecting decision makers across the myriad of complex stakeholders. CHIEF has been a very effective and valuable resource in that capacity – it brings the right level conversation between buyers and sellers to help identify the problems worth solving and shaping creative solutions that will ultimately aid health service providers to deliver fabulous and integrated care to patients. For that reason, I am a strong advocate for CHIEF and I feel that my diverse experience and passion would translate well to being a CHIEF Executive Forum Advisory Committee member.

What unique skills, perspectives and contributions would you bring to the Advisory Committee?
As someone that has spent more than 25 years in a wide variety of roles across the health system, I feel that I bring a balanced perspective between different types of stakeholders as well as a passion for what CHIEF has given me personally which is access to the right stakeholders (both public sector as well as vendors) to inform ideas and perspectives and collaborate towards system level solutions and innovations. Currently, as a member of a very innovative solution I understand the value that CHIEF has delivered in making us part of that collaboration conversation. As an Advisory Committee member, I would endeavour to continue to strengthen that value proposition and represent the needs of other disruptive technology providers.

What is motivating you to join the CHIEF Executive Forum Advisory Committee?
I’m a passionate advocate for the power of technology to improve population health and healthcare delivery in Canada, and would like to contribute to the influential role that CHIEF plays in advancing the national digital health agenda.

What unique skills, perspectives and contributions would you bring to the Advisory Committee?
After 20 years of public health experience and 2 years with a global health technology platform provider, my perspective uniquely balances public and private sector considerations to support digital approaches to transform health in Canada. I have worked at municipal, provincial, national, and international levels. As the former Director of Public Health IT Solutions at Ontario’s Ministry of Health, I built and implemented provincial digital health assets like the prescription drug repository, immunization repository, and communicable disease case & outbreak management systems. My early career experiences as a newly-minted infectious disease epidemiologist responding to the 2003 SARS outbreak led me down the path of building technology solutions to support public health practice—experiences that were later invaluable as I helped to lead Ontario’s pandemic technology response through COVID-19 where I developed new systems for case and contact management, vaccine administration and inventory management, and public-facing systems for vaccine appointment booking, proof of vaccination certificates (QR codes), and viewing lab results. I have led pan-Canadian efforts to modernize public health technology, establishing interoperability frameworks and terminology and messaging standards, and was the 2019 recipient of Digital Health Canada’s Leadership in Digital Health Award. Now in the private sector at Salesforce, I have the privilege of helping government customers around the world to reimagine and transform health services to improve the health of populations.

What is motivating you to join the CHIEF Executive Forum Advisory Committee?
The CHIEF Executive Forum Advisory Committee has a critical responsibility to not only ensure that the forum’s program delivers value to its members but that it enables forthright discussion to help public and private participants to collaboratively move the digital agenda forward in Canada. As a Chatham House Rule governed forum, CHIEF, likewise, has the opportunity to be a collective private / public voice for innovation. In fact, I think the opportunity exists for the Forum to deepen its influence as a powerful Thinktank for Canada’s health systems. It has been a rewarding experience to work with the committee members and the Digital Health Canada leadership team over the past two years, and I would welcome the opportunity to leverage that experience to contribute for an additional term.

What unique skills, perspectives and contributions would you bring to the Advisory Committee?
I am keenly aware of the responsibility of the private sector member of the committee to represent the interests of that community in ensuring that the CHIEF Forum not only meets its overall objectives, but that its value proposition remains sound, particularly for the private sector members that provide critical funding. I would continue to contribute with that perspective in mind, offering a collaborative, facilitation-oriented, and experienced-informed approach.
