Mary Sanagan, Partner, Deloitte (Ontario)

How long have you been a member of Digital Health Canada
10+ years

Why do you want to join the Digital Health Canada Board of Directors at this point in your career?
I have a passion for our publically funded health system. Canada is so heavily underinvested in technology that we have a wonderful opportunity to change the patient experience through digitally enabled solutions, and Digital Health Canada has a role to play in this shift.

How does your experience align with the Digital Health Canada strategic plan and mandate?
I spend most of my days helping diverse groups of stakeholders achieve a common goal. This experience prepares me to support the Digital Health Canada mandate of bringing together ideas from multiple segments for incubation and advocacy. It is through this incubation of ideas that we can collectively push for change.

What unique skills, perspectives and contributions would you bring to the Digital Health Canada Board?
The future of our healthcare system is dependent on realizing a digitally enabled experience that is customer-driven, agile, and insights-empowered. This vision will require both public and private investment in the system. Over the years, I have spent time working in both the public and private sector and I understand the pressures and drivers for success within each that will help build the vision.

Do you or have or have you ever had any direct patient care experience (clinical)?

What other board appointments or relevant leadership experiences have you had in the past five years?
For the last four years, all my volunteer time is spent working with Cystic Fibrosis Canada. We run five fundraising events a year, including Toronto’s premier Decant Gala, where we have raised over $1,000,000 in five years!

Please tell us why you feel Digital Health Canada members should vote for you.
I have spent the last 20 years trying to make the health system better through technology. I have a unique perspective of what needs to be done from working within the system, as a consultant to the system, plus navigating the system as a heavy user of its services. I will bring this perspective of a consumer, a navigator, and an industry leader to all discussions to help address our challenges and opportunities from a holistic lens.
