As Vice President of Programs and Technology for eHealth, Paul works closely with health system partners and citizens to plan, deliver, support, and optimize strategic technology initiatives and operational clinical systems to improve health information sharing & patient care. Paul and his teams facilitate and collaborate with stakeholders across the province to ensure healthcare providers and staff have access to the latest solutions for improving patient care. Paul was previously responsible for leading the Programs area at eHealth. Paul was instrumental in developing and deploying the Saskatchewan patient portal (MySaskHealthRecord), virtual care technologies, and most recently, various technology components of the health sector’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Prior to joining eHealth, Paul held several senior management roles within the healthcare, management consulting services, and manufacturing sectors. He has been a member of many non-profit boards, most recently sitting on the College of Podiatry Council for Saskatchewan

Why do you want to join the Digital Health Canada Board of Directors at this point in your career?
I have a strong passion for enabling digital health services in our Saskatchewan health system, and equally across Canada. In addition, leveraging knowledge across Canada and even other parts of the world is an important aspect of ensuring we meet the ever-increasing demands of health care.
How does your experience align with the Digital Health Canada strategic plan and mandate?
I have over 11 years of direct senior management experience leading digital health teams throughout Saskatchewan. I also have extensive experience in the private IT sector leading innovative initiatives. Currently, I work closely with health system partners and citizens to plan, deliver, support, and optimize strategic digital technology initiatives and operational clinical systems to improve health information sharing & patient care. I’m also accountable for the Provincial Electronic Health Record. In addition, my teams facilitate and collaborate with stakeholders across the province to ensure healthcare providers and staff have access to the latest solutions for improving patient care.
What unique skills, perspectives and contributions would you bring to the Digital Health Canada Board?
I have significant experience as a senior management technology leader with industry-leading expertise in a variety of management disciplines most recently within the Information technology and clinical healthcare industry. I’m a fairly dynamic and forward-thinking individual which helps provide me with tangible solutions and proven results. I also have experience and expertise in information technology and my extensive experience in managing complex business and information technology environments provides me with confidence in managing change throughout organizations. I think this combination of digital health experience coupled with my knowledge obtained in the private sector positions me well in providing different perspectives on the changes we face in the digital health sector.
Do you or have or have you ever had any direct patient care experience (clinical)?
I’ve led patient flow and registration services for a number of hospitals. In addition, I currently sit on the College of Podiatry Board.

I have not had the chance to participate in any Digital Health Canada committees. I do represent Saskatchewan on a variety of FPT tables as well as a variety of Canada Health Infoway tables.
