This role is a combination of health information technology, health information management, and health informatics within Clinical Information Systems (CIS) and other digital health technologies. By providing technical support as well as support in the designing of processes, you are a key contributor in the continued development of terminology within AHS and the national digital healthcare field.

As the subject matter expert, you will possess working knowledge of CIS, digital health, and knowledge of global health informatics standards. You will investigate where terminologies are being used, how they are being used, and find the opportunities where terminologies could be implemented. Description:

As the Senior Advisor, you will be responsible for the technical and/or tooling aspect of terminology development, mapping, terminology analytics, maintenance, and implementation. This will include supporting the team with data imports and exports, configuration and maintenance of a customized application, upgrades and management of databases, and process design and execution.

Additionally, this role will be the subject matter expert on the technical implementation and uses of terminology content in Connect Care (Epic). The Senior Advisor will ensure we are up to date with Standards Development Organizations and providing leadership with ideas and solutions to keep up with technological advancements and interoperability standards. You will work with external vendors to find innovative solutions for complex needs, problem-solving, and developing processes to suit the needs of AHS. Leadership and mentoring skills will be put to use through projects, working groups, training, and information sharing. Focus will primarily be on the application of controlled terminologies, foundations, and application of interoperability standards.

Required Qualifications:

This role requires a combination of education and experience in health information and computer technology. Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, Health Informatics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field. A minimum five (5) years working in a healthcare related field, with experience in a Clinical Information System (CIS) or Electronic Health Record (EHR). An understanding of messaging standards such as HL7. A basic knowledge of controlled terminologies such as SNOMED CT, at minimum, is required, as is the commitment to continued education and staying up to date on terminology advancements.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Applicants must be self-motivated, have logical and critical thinking skills, be detailed oriented, and be able to collaborate with a variety of stakeholders. Excellent verbal and written skills are necessary to foster relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to support, troubleshoot, develop, manage, and maintain vendor applications/platforms. Must be comfortable providing strategic, technical and business, advice and guidance to the Program Director for solutions and continued program development. Experience in leading initiatives, projects, working groups, or a team of individuals.

Preferred Qualifications:

Certified Terminology Standards Specialist (CTSS) or SNOMED CT Terminology Services Certification or Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS/CPHIMS-CA) are preferred. Applicants with a commitment to complete certification will be considered. Prior experience with a terminology implementation and experience working in an electronic health record (EHR) environment or a clinical information system (CIS) are strong assets.
