Chief Nursing Information Officer – 3 Year Contract (possibility of renewal)

New Brunswick is planning to move from a collection of standalone hospital information systems toward a standardised, integrated Clinical Information Solution (CIS). This new CIS is expected to support the achievement of Provincial Health Plan priorities, including improved patient safety and quality in hospitals. With a vision for shaping the health system, the Chief Nursing Information Officer (CNIO) will work collaboratively with key stakeholders to maximize the value of a new CIS. A key part of this role will be developing strong relationships with partners, including various internal and external stakeholders.
Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister, CIS Business Solution, the CNIO will rally nurses and allied health professionals around the need for, and implementation of, a standardized, integrated CIS. Working together with a Provincial Chief Medical Information Officer and Regional CNIOs, a key part of this role will be engaging with nurses to improve clinical workflows and business processes.
As the Chief Nursing Information Officer, you will:
- Provide leadership to a change management team who will develop and execute the CIS clinician engagement strategy.
- Ensure the new CIS meets nurses’ needs, and they are accepting of the solution.
- Collaborate with nursing staff, clinicians, and stakeholders to streamline nursing workflows, improve efficiency, and reduce burden with technology.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure maximum nursing preparedness for the business process transformations required to implement the new CIS.
- Provide leadership in developing and delivering education and training programs to enhance nursing staff competency in healthcare technology and informatics.
- Chair the CIS Professional Advisory Committee and identify and mentor nursing leaders across the hospital sector in preparation for the CIS implementation.
- Work collaboratively two Regional CNIOs, one for each Regional Health Authority.
- Build health informatics interest and capacity among interested nursing and allied health professionals.

Essential Qualifications:
- This role requires a demonstrated record in clinical leadership and engagement. The candidate will embody excellence in collaboration, strategic decision-making and communications.
- A University Degree in Nursing and a minimum of five (5) years experience as a nursing leader.
- Experience as a CNIO and/or leading the implementation of a Clinical Information Solution in a hospital or hospital system.
- Considerable knowledge of health care operations, clinical workflow and business processes.
- Excellence in customer service, collaboration, strategic decision-making and stakeholder engagement.
- An understanding of relevant health information legislation and standards.
- Experience engaging varying groups of nurses and other professionals to build consensus and acceptance around a large project.
- An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
- Written and spoken competence in English and French is required. Please state your language capability on your application

Asset Qualifications: Preference may be given to candidates that possess one or more of the following asset qualifications:
- A demonstrated record in leading successful clinical improvement projects.
- Experience in nursing informatics.
- Experience with project management, team leadership, or consultation processes.
- Experience providing advice to senior-level management.
- Experience building collaborative relationships by using networking and communication skills.
