Contract Value: $55,000 – $65,000
Overview of the position
Digital Health Canada is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced In-House Bookkeeper to manage the day-to-day financial operations of our growing organization. This newly created role is essential to strengthening our internal financial processes and supporting the accuracy and efficiency of our accounting systems. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, handling payroll, reconciling accounts, and ensuring compliance with relevant financial regulations and nonprofit best practices.
Key Responsibilities
The Bookkeeper is responsible for the end-to-end process of all financial reporting and reconciling activities for Digital Health Canada, including:
- Maintain accurate financial records, ledgers, and accounts in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
- Process and reconcile accounts payable and receivable
- Manage expense reports, reimbursements, and vendor payments
- Reconcile monthly bank, credit card, and online payment accounts
- Support payroll processing and benefits reconciliation in coordination with HR/payroll provider
- Support employee benefits program
- Prepare regular financial reports for internal use and support external financial reporting
- Assist with budgeting, cash flow forecasting, and audit preparation
- Ensure proper filing and retention of all financial documents
- Collaborate with external accountants to support year-end closing and tax filings
- Comply with relevant reporting requirements (GST/HST, QST, EHT).
- Help establish internal financial policies and procedures as needed
- Create monthly financial statements (trial balance, income statement, balance sheet, investments)
- Respond to and investigate payables/receivables inquiries
- Maintain and document internal control systems and procedures
Desired Skills and Experience
The successful candidate must be ready to hit the ground running, taking ownership of day-to-day bookkeeping responsibilities related to Digital Heath Canada. They will contribute to accurate financial tracking, support budget management, and ensure timely processing of invoices, payments, and reconciliations to help maximize visibility, sponsorship revenue, and operational efficiency.
Candidates must possess:
- 5+ years of bookkeeping or related accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit or association setting
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Online or similar accounting software
- Strong understanding of Canadian accounting principles and nonprofit financial practices
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
- Excellent Excel skills
- Understanding of Association Management Software is an asset
- Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive financial information with discretion and maintain strict confidentiality
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Bookkeeping certification (e.g., CPB) is an asset
- Creativity, flexibility, and a positive attitude
• Ability to work under pressure, make decisions, solve problems, and meet deadlines
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
