William Osler Health System (Osler) is one of Ontario’s largest and most dynamic community teaching hospitals, serving 1.3 million residents within the Central Region. Osler has 985 beds across three hospital sites: Brampton Civic Hospital, Etobicoke General Hospital, and the Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health and Wellness, as well as a 30-bed Reactivation Care Unit located at Humber River Hospital–Church Street Site, and a Withdrawal Management Centre in Brampton. With an annual budget of $950 million, Osler offers a wide range of health services, with high-quality care provided by skilled, professional, multidisciplinary teams.

The Position

In this newly created leadership role, the Associate Vice President, Hospital Information System will be instrumental in the implementation of a new Hospital Information System (HIS) – a complex, large-scale transformation which will support the achievement of the organization’s strategic goals of improved quality, access and sustainability. Reporting to the Vice President, Digital Transformation, Chief Information and Privacy Officer (VP/CIO), the AVP will be responsible for the successful implementation, and ongoing optimization of the hospital’s HIS across all Osler sites and services. The AVP will ensure on-time and on-budget delivery of the HIS. The AVP will ensure appropriate staffing, risk management, budget compliance, project planning and delivery, as well as alignment with planned strategic outcomes. The project portfolio includes a project management office, technology delivery, staffing, budget management, progress reporting, application configuration, integration with clinical and back-office systems, privacy and security compliance, and contract and vendor management. The procurement phase of this work is expected to be complete in early 2024, followed by the implementation project phase of two years and then followed by the ongoing operation and optimization of the system.

The AVP will have a demonstrated ability to collaborate and build the case for change across the organization, through the development of positive internal and external relationships in an atmosphere of trust, with strong conflict resolution and critical thinking skills. In addition to an established reputation for utilizing a consultative, collaborative style of leadership and for pushing the status quo and helping others to recognize the need for change, the AVP will have experience leading in a change-oriented role, managing multiple stakeholders across a complex hospital environment.
