The Position
In this newly created leadership role, the Associate Vice President, Hospital Information System will be instrumental in the implementation of a new Hospital Information System (HIS) – a complex, large-scale transformation which will support the achievement of the organization’s strategic goals of improved quality, access and sustainability. Reporting to the Vice President, Digital Transformation, Chief Information and Privacy Officer (VP/CIO), the AVP will be responsible for the successful implementation, and ongoing optimization of the hospital’s HIS across all Osler sites and services. The AVP will ensure on-time and on-budget delivery of the HIS. The AVP will ensure appropriate staffing, risk management, budget compliance, project planning and delivery, as well as alignment with planned strategic outcomes. The project portfolio includes a project management office, technology delivery, staffing, budget management, progress reporting, application configuration, integration with clinical and back-office systems, privacy and security compliance, and contract and vendor management. The procurement phase of this work is expected to be complete in early 2024, followed by the implementation project phase of two years and then followed by the ongoing operation and optimization of the system.
Key leadership priorities for the new AVP will be to:
- Champion the organizational transformation of HIS, a multimillion-dollar IT investment.
- Provide leadership for the development and execution of the IT system modernization strategy, providing direction for a broad and complex corporate change initiative, from design through to execution and adoption.
- Collaborate with a range of stakeholders, within and beyond William Osler, ensuring effective health system engagement and the development and sustainability of regional partnerships.
- Ensure efficient project management principles and practices are in place to manage a highly demanding project, on time and within budget.
Experience
The AVP will have a demonstrated ability to collaborate and build the case for change across the organization, through the development of positive internal and external relationships in an atmosphere of trust, with strong conflict resolution and critical thinking skills. In addition to an established reputation for utilizing a consultative, collaborative style of leadership and for pushing the status quo and helping others to recognize the need for change, the AVP will have experience leading in a change-oriented role, managing multiple stakeholders across a complex hospital environment.
