Webinar Wednesday – Exploring Open Data & Digital Twins in Canadian Healthcare Systems
April 17 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm EDT
April 17, 2019 – Ryan Doherty, Empower Health – Open Data initiatives across Canada are unlocking information that has been siloed within public sector organizations and agencies. Over the past few years, Canada has seen a culture change within the public sector that is driving new opportunities strengthened by open data. Many repositories have been established nationally, provincially & regionally, and new datasets are being added on an ongoing basis. Data from these repositories are important in fueling healthcare innovation across Canada.
Digital Twin technology is beginning to mature and enter mainstream use. Earlier this year, it was highlighted as a Gartner Top 10 Strategic Technology Trend for 2019. A digital twin is a digital representation that mirrors a real-life object, process or system. This technology provides the ability to support business planning and outcomes, facilitate real-time monitoring, improve process efficiencies, and identify new business opportunities. Leveraging this technology to support the many stakeholders of the Canadian healthcare system will become important to ensure efficient use of limited resources.
Leveraging open data initiatives & digital twin technology will become an important aspect of data-driven healthcare.
Dr. Ryan Doherty is the President & Founder of Empower Health (formerly called iamsick.ca), and has been actively involved in the Open Data & healthcare innovation communities for the past decade. He was a member of the International Open Data Charter Stakeholder Advisory Group for the Treasury Board Secretariat of Ontario in 2017, and currently leads Empower Health.
