SUMMARY:Webinar Wednesday - Using AI-assisted POC Ultrasound to Help Early Screen TMJ Arthritis in Children
DESCRIPTION:Arthritis is the most common chronic disease in Canada\, placing a tremendous burden to the health system. From the 6 million Canadians living with arthritis\, around 700\,000 are in the province of Alberta. It affects 1 in every 1\,000 Canadian children. In this disease\, the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is almost always the first joint involved. This joint connects the lower jaw to the skull\, allowing the mouth to open and close. TMJ arthritis in children can cause devastating facial deformities compromising daily activities such as speaking and chewing. Since there is no cure for the damage caused\, it is important to detect and treat this condition early to prevent lifelong jaw problems. \nAccessible\, cheaper and safer imaging is needed to diagnose and treat TMJ arthritis early to avoid the costs\, delays and need for sedation related to MRI images\, which is used to diagnose this condition. Ultrasound (US) is safer\, more comfortable for children and cheaper for the health system. Not to mention\, its portability that allows its use in diverse health care facilities\, including rural communities and remote areas. However\, the challenge is that US requires significant training and expertise to interpret the images. \nWe are developing an AI-assisted image analysis tool to be integrated to a portable handheld ultrasound to help screening TMJ arthritis in children. For this\, we will scan the joint of children diagnosed with arthritis in the main children’s hospital of Alberta. These images will then be used to develop the AI assisted image-analysis tool. This innovative tool will overcome existing barriers and improve health by advancing digital health. \nFebruary Webinar Wednesdays are sponsored by Merge

SUMMARY:Fellowship Knowledge Translation Webinar with Dr. Jaason Geerts
DESCRIPTION:Fellowship Knowledge Translation Webinar with Dr. Jaason Geerts\nCalling out the Leadership B.S.: A Research Journey Towards Gold Standardsalling out the Leadership B.S.: What the Evidence Actually Shows \nThe title\, “Calling out the Leadership B.S.”\, plays off Stanford professor Jeffrey Pfeffer’s book\, which scathingly exposes many widely accepted but false leadership beliefs. The bulk of conventional leadership wisdom in best-selling books at the airport and even in academic journals\, Pfeffer argues\, is at best misleading\, usually wrong\, and frequently harmful. \nThis may explain why\, despite the great impact that outstanding leaders and leadership can have on people\, organizations\, communities\, and beyond\, far too many leaders and leadership development programs underperform or fail. \nOver the course of his academic career\, Dr. Jaason Geerts\, CCHL Fellowship candidate and Vice-President of Research and Leadership Development for the College\, has taken a similar approach to investigating central leadership questions and debunking common beliefs and misconceptions. \nThe purpose of calling out the B.S.\, cultivating gold-standard evidence\, and creating resources for research and practice has been to contribute credible scholarship to fill key knowledge gaps\, and\, most importantly\, to support world-class leadership\, care\, and outcomes at home and abroad. \nDuring this interactive webinar\, Dr. Geerts will address several key leadership myths\, such as: \n\nThe myth about who should lead: veterans\, volunteers\, MBAs\, etc.;\nThe myth about “evidence” in the field;\nThe myth about leadership development (which is nearly always just leader development);\nThe myth about diverse teams; and\nThe myth about leadership organizations (which are nearly always not).\n\nFor each topic\, we will discuss: \n\nThe key question or majority belief (myth)\,\nWhat the research actually says – calling out the B.S.\, and\nKey applications or takeaways.\n\nFollowing the presentation\, there will be time for audience questions. \n\n\nFees\nThe event is free to attend\, but pre-registration is required. SUMMARY:Webinar Wednesday - Enabling Digital Transformation in Ambulatory Care: A People and Process Approach to CIS Implementation
DESCRIPTION:This presentation offers an overview of Alberta’s implementation of the Connect Care clinical information system in ambulatory care\, with a deliberate focus on the people and processes that enable meaningful digital transformation. Rather than emphasizing technology\, the session underscores the pivotal role of governance\, strong sponsorship\, stakeholder engagement\, and visible leadership in navigating complex organizational change. It highlights the value of inclusive stakeholder engagement strategies—such as collaboration with patient advisors and user groups—to ensure solutions are grounded in frontline and patient experience. At the heart of the presentation is a comprehensive change management approach\, featuring practical tools like communication frameworks\, the importance of end-to-end workflow demonstrations\, and patient safety review sessions\, all designed to build confidence and readiness. The discussion also outlines tailored launch support models\, including superuser networks and both on-site and virtual assistance\, reinforcing the principle that true success lies in empowering people through thoughtful change\, not just deploying new systems. \nLearning Objectives \n\nExplain the importance of governance\, leadership\, stakeholder engagement\, and sponsorship in supporting large-scale digital transformations in healthcare.\nDescribe effective stakeholder engagement strategies that ensure system design and implementation reflect the needs of patients and frontline users.\nIdentify key change management tools and approaches used to support readiness\, adoption\, and sustainability during CIS implementations.\nExplore launch support models—including the role of superusers\, hybrid assistance approaches and issue escalation frameworks\nSummarize the role of project management in coordinating resources\, managing risks\, and maintaining alignment across program priorities and timelines.

SUMMARY:Webinar Wednesday - Solving the Capacity Constraint: Rethinking Modern Healthcare
DESCRIPTION:Healthcare did not evolve in a world of abundance. When demand exceeds capacity\, bottlenecks appear\, and they cascade. Much of modern healthcare is spent managing scarcity\, not delivering care. What if scarcity is no longer the right design assumption? \nCapacity isn’t only headcount and infrastructure\, it’s also time and attention. What could our health system look like if we used AI to create more capacity? What if we doubled healthcare capacity? \nIn this webinar\, Dr. Simon Kos and Dr. Paul Hacker explore what a higher-capacity health system could mean for key outcomes in the Canadian context\, and how leaders can approach AI in a way that supports clinicians while keeping care human.

SUMMARY:Unlocking Capacity: A Practical Framework to Reduce Health System Administrative Burden and Strengthen Financial Performance
DESCRIPTION:The healthcare system is swimming in lost hours. \nMillions of clinician hours disappear each year into administrative burden across every specialty\, department\, and region — compounded by countless staff hours spent coordinating\, reconciling\, and manually managing fragmented workflows. \nThese lost hours are not just an operational nuisance. They represent a material financial and capacity constraint that costs hospitals millions annually in lost throughput\, avoidable overtime\, delayed billing\, and underutilized clinical capacity.\nAdministrative burden is not simply inefficiency\, it is suppressed capacity hiding in plain sight. \nJoin Yan D-Beaurivage\, VP\, Product\, Market and Growth Strategy at Petal\, for an executive-level discussion on how hospitals are reframing administrative burden as a financial and digital enablement priority. Drawing on real-world hospital experience\, this session outlines a pragmatic\, enterprise-focused approach to reducing friction\, accelerating time-to-value\, and protecting long-term system sustainability\, all without adding complexity or challenging change management.\nAttendees will learn how to: \n\nPinpoint where fragmented workflows constrain margin\, capacity\, and clinician productivity\nOrchestrate cross-department workflows to eliminate handoffs and duplication\nStrengthen interoperability to unlock greater return on digital investments\nAutomate high-friction coordination work\, such as on call operations\, to free teams for higher-value care\nDrive disciplined workflow redesign that reduces\, while not adding complexity\n\nPresented by

SUMMARY:Webinar Wednesday - Is AI-CDSS ready for the primary care exam room? Mapping the market landscape\, clinical needs and legislative context.
DESCRIPTION:AI-enabled clinical decision support systems (AI-CDSS) promise to improve clinical workflows\, reduce administrative burden\, and help clinicians apply evidence-based care at the point of care. Yet questions remain about their real-world value\, integration with clinical workflows\, and the legal and regulatory issues with AI-CDSS at this point in time. \nThis webinar presents findings from three complementary analyses conducted through the Evidence2Practice (E2P) AI Discovery initiative: a market analysis of the AI-CDSS ecosystem\, an evaluation of the value proposition for primary care clinicians\, and a legislative and policy review of the regulatory landscape in Ontario. Together\, these insights offer a comprehensive view of the opportunities\, risks\, and practical considerations shaping the future of AI-enabled clinical decision support in Canadian primary care. \n

SUMMARY:Webinar Wednesday - AI-Enabled Clinical Summaries: Reducing Chart Review Burden to Support Patient Attachment
DESCRIPTION:Patient attachment remains one of the most pressing challenges facing primary care systems today. Across jurisdictions\, growing numbers of unattached patients\, increasing administrative burden\, and workforce constraints are putting pressure on providers and health systems to find new approaches to improving access and continuity of care. \nOnce patients are attached\, clinicians must quickly review and understand a patient’s clinical history in order to determine the appropriate care pathway. Referral packages\, specialist consult letters\, hospital discharge summaries\, diagnostic reports\, and historical records often arrive as large unstructured document sets across multiple systems. For complex patients\, clinicians can spend hours reviewing hundreds of pages of PDFs and scanned records to assemble a clear clinical picture before the first visit. \nThis webinar will bring together primary care and technology leaders to discuss the realities of patient attachment on the ground and explore how emerging AI-enabled tools are helping care teams synthesize fragmented documentation into structured clinical summaries that support intake assessment\, pre-visit preparation\, and clinical decision-making. \nThrough a moderated panel discussion\, speakers will share insights on where attachment processes break down\, where technology can meaningfully support care teams\, and what organizations should consider when implementing AI to improve patient access\, navigation\, and readiness for care. \nPresented by: \n\nPaige Baltessen\, Primary Care Manager\, Grand Bend Area Community Health Centre (GBACHC)\nTricia Wilkerson\, Director of Integrated Care\, Amplify Care\nAlissa Taylor\, Chief Product Officer\, Akinox\n\nModerated by: \n\nMark Casselman\, Chief Growth Officer\, Akinox

SUMMARY:Webinar Wednesday - Introduce Clinical Intake - Tailor the AI - Improve the Scribe: CAMH × FirstHx on Where AI Documentation Breaks in Complex Care
DESCRIPTION:Where AI Scribes Break Today \nAI scribes are scaling rapidly—but “good enough” documentation can introduce real clinical\, legal\, and equity risk\, especially in specialty and complex care. \nImproving the Input: FirstHx \nFirstHx addresses this at the source by improving the clinical context fed into a scribe. Patients complete adaptive\, evidence-based clinical interviews before the visit\, generating structured\, longitudinal histories that reduce reliance on incomplete\, real-time conversations and allow clinicians to focus on diagnosis and treatment. \nImproving Interpretation: CAMH \nAt the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH)\, the first enterprise AI scribe customized for mental health and addictions deployed in Canada shows where current approaches break—cross-organizational data leakage\, missed suicide risk\, incomplete mental status capture\, loss of non-verbal context\, and failure to reflect cultural nuance. \nWhat This Could Enable \nTogether\, these approaches point to a potential shift in integrated care. By combining structured pre-visit histories with AI that can interpret complex conversations\, documentation could become more complete and longitudinal—helping clinicians better identify patterns\, reduce misattribution\, and make more coordinated decisions across mental and physical health. \nCross-Sector Perspective \nThis session brings CAMH and FirstHx’s unaffiliated work together for the first time. Moderated by the eMental Health International Collaborative (eMHIC)\, it explores both the benefits and the limitations of cross-sector collaboration—and what becomes possible when different parts of the system are examined together\, without assuming partnership. \nSession Structure & Flow \n\nBrief framing of where AI scribes stand today\nCase study: FirstHx\nCase study: CAMH\nModerated panel discussion\nAudience Q&A\n\nKey Takeaways \n\nWhere AI scribes break in real-world care\nWhy both clinical context and interpretation matter\nRisks: clinician rework\, misdiagnosis\, legal exposure\, and inequities\nWhat this could enable for more connected\, whole-person care\n\nPresented by: \n\nDr. Tania Tajirian (LinkedIn) is Chief Health Information Officer and Chief of Hospital Medicine at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH)\nDr. Chris O’Connor\, (LinkedIn) CEO of FirstHx\, critical care physician at Trillium Health Partners\, and Founder and former President of Think Research.\nLinda Hanane Mouhamou (LinkedIn) (she/her/elle)\, Management Consultant and Patient Partner
